Celebrating Malaysia’s BE Industry Champions

The Kesatria 1Malaysia Programme, an initiative by MyCEB (Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, contributed to 123 successful international business events leads and attracted a total of 188,317 delegates with an estimated economic impact of RM2 billion.

According to Nor Yahati Awang, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, Malaysia’s business events industry is projected to deliver RM3.9 billion in gross national income (GNI). Apart from that, it is also estimated to attract 2.9 million business events visitors by 2020, while also helping to create 16,720 new jobs along the way.

“Our industry’s success as a global business events destination is not solely the responsibility and effort of the government. It is also towards the remarkable Conference Ambassadors, Kesatria, in helping profile and promote the country internationally as well as bidding for international conventions to be hosted in Malaysia. The Kesatria 1Malaysia Programme also supports the 1Malaysia initiative that calls for national unity and the celebration of the country’s unique diversity to assist the progress of Malaysia’s economic goals and aspirations,” she stated

This year, six newly appointed Kesatria were introduced. They are:

  1. Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan b. Abu Osman, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Internatinal), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
  2. Dr. Mohd Hair Bejo, Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia
  3. Dato’ Dr. Goh Khean Lee, President of Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation
  4. Kenneth Fong, President of Malaysian Ophthalmology Society
  5. Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice President of Malaysian Association of Hydrogen Energy
  6. Dato’ Dr. Prepageran Narayanan, President of Asian Research Symposium in Rhinology
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Goh Khean Lee, President of Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation; Datuk Zulkefli Hj. Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB; Nor Yahati Awang, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia; Prof. Dr. Mohd Hair Bejo, Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia; and Prof. Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu at the official appointment of the Kesatria, Malaysia’s Conference Ambassadors.
