Malaysia’s Halal industry is recognising the contributions of eight individuals, institutions and companies as recipients of the 2018 Halal Excellence Awards in appreciation for their outstanding achievements in the global Halal industry.
The awards by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) is presented in conjunction with World Halal Week 2018 (WHW 2018). Brahim’s Holdings Bhd is awarded the Halal Excellence Award in honour of its exceptional contributions and commitment for the development of the overall Halal industry.
Meanwhile, the Halal Brand Award is presented to McDonalds Malaysia in honour of it being a high-profile brand and trademark built throughout the Halal industry. It is also to celebrate the company’s creative excellence and consistency in promoting the international acceptance and upholding the Halal integrity.
The Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) is given the Talent Development Award in acknowledgement of its outstanding contributions made to uphold human capital development in the Halal economy. In fact, Malaysia has trained more than 60,000 Halal knowledge workers since 2008.
For its innovating ideas, the Halal Products Research Institute (HPRI) secures the Halal Science and Research Award. This recognition is also due to HPRI’s efforts and commitment in pioneering Halal research and development through science and technology.
In the food and beverages sector, Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd and Mamee Double-Decker (M) Sdn Bhd are named Successful International Halal Company and Successful Malaysian Halal Company respectively. This is mainly due to their fast growth and innovate business processes, product development, enterprise, sustainability, leadership and overall business success in penetrating the global Halal market.
The broadcasting agency NHK, Japan is also recognised with the Halal Awareness Initiative Award for its initiatives that helped contributed to higher levels of consumer awareness internationally and to encourage organisations and global companies to venture into Halal businesses.
The 2018 Halal Excellence Award also recognises the late Tan Sri Dr. Surin Abdul Halim Ismail Pitsuwan with a Special Award to acknowledge his influence in the development of the global halal industry. He spoke at many international; conferences about halal wisdom, halal trade, tourism and talent.
