INDUSTRY EXPERTS ANALYSE INDUSTRY 4.0 BLUEPRINT AT SEVENTH BURSA-HLIB STRATUM FOCUS SERIES

Bursa Malaysia and Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) held the seventh Stratum Focus Series bringing together industry experts and financial market players to discuss the outlook and investment opportunities from Industry 4.0.

The event, themed Industry 4.0: Humanising Machines, Disrupting Economies, was attended by 100 participants from the investment community and the cross-section of industries impacted by Industry 4.0.

The event’s opening remarks were delivered by Ms Selvarany Rasiah, Chief Commercial Officer of Bursa Malaysia. Keynote speakers for the event comprised En Faizal Mohd Yusof, Senior Director of Investment Policy and Trade Facilitation at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, who spoke on the national policy on Industry 4.0; and YBhg Datuk Phang Ah Tong, Chairman of Malaysia Automotive Institute, who covered the implementation of Industry 4.0 in the manufacturing sector.

Bursa Malaysia CEO Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan said, “Industry 4.0 is proving to be the foremost source of opportunity and challenges across industry. As ASEAN’s capital market leader, Bursa Malaysia is poised to facilitate issuers and investors alike in harnessing the change heralded by this new era of industrialisation.”

Mr Kwek Kon Chow, Chief Operating Officer of Hong Leong Stock Broking, Ms Lee Jim Leng, Group Managing Director of Hong Leong Investment Bank said, “We believe in the importance of supporting Government efforts in capacity-building within the industry by equipping our institutional investors with sufficient industry knowledge on local market potential to assist them in making informed decisions. This helps keep them ahead of market developments and opportunities, as well as to provide them with effective solutions, financial analysis and outlook on the industry and economy.”

Among other speakers included En Hizam Kadir, Vice President, Growth Ecosystem Development, MDE; Mr Yong Yoon Kit, Executive Vice President and Partner of PEMANDU Associates; Mr Michal Golebiewski, Chief Marketing Officer, Microsoft; Mr Dominic Mascrinas, Head of Operations & Technology, Hong Leong Bank; Mr Chew Boon Hong, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei’s Regional South Pacific Office; and Mr Graeme Walwyn, Chief Operating Officer of UEM Edgenta Berhad.

Sessions at the event covered the way forward for Industry 4.0, a panel session on Industry 4.0 opportunities for investors, as well as presentations on Huawei and UEM Edgenta’s experiences in the area.

According to HLIB Head of Dealing, SVP, Institutional and Corporate Business (Public) Datuk Zunaidah Idris said in a statement about the Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus Series,

“The Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus Series is a thematic sectoral conference aimed at providing value-added knowledge to the industry. The series is now in its seventh edition since 2015. The series aims to exchange knowledge and policy insight between the Government, Agencies as well as the investment community. The theme has been chosen based on the domestic and global shift of trend that may change the dynamics of a sector and create an investment opportunity. Bursa HLIB Stratum Focus Series VII: Industry 4.0 is chosen because the global trend supply chain is moving towards AI and technology. Malaysia needs to move with the trend as we are a trading nation and it is important for us to be a part of this industry revolution.”
