Boost Malaysia and Boost Indonesia are joining forces to help the victims of the recent tsunami tragedy in Indonesia that has claimed over 400 lives and thousands injured along the coastlines off the Sunda Straits.
Both digital financial service providers, whom are part of regional telecommunications and digital services giant Axiata Group, have set up channels within their respective apps where users can send donations that will be used to aid communities impacted by the tragedy.
Boost Malaysia users will find the Indonesia Tsunami Relief tile listed in the Donations sections within the Boost app where they can contribute to the fund. Boost Indonesia users, on the other hand, will be able to donate by going to the home screen within the BoostPlay app.
All proceeds collected in Malaysia and Indonesia will be channelled through Boost’s Indonesian office to social and humanitarian aid foundation Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) as well as fast moving consumer goods distributor Mitra Karsa Distribusi (MKD) and used for relief work in the stricken region.
“The tragic events in Indonesia saddened the world and there’s undoubtedly many people in Malaysia who want to contribute to humanitarian efforts. As a regional business, we have the infrastructure in place in Malaysia and Indonesia to make a positive difference to the victims of this tragedy. We want to assist in any way we can so we’ve partnered with ACT and MKD to ensure donations collected are put to the best use possible for the victims,” said Mohd Khairil Abdullah, CEO of Axiata Digital Services.
Boost Malaysia is a homegrown e-wallet with nearly 3.5 million users. Donations has been a long-standing feature within the app where users can channel their contributions directly to their preferred charities and funds. Currently there are 17 bodies listed in-app which are part of Boost’s #DoGoodWithBoost initiative.
“Through Boost, which can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices, users are free to contribute as much as they want to ACT’s relief efforts. Additionally, regular Boost users would have noticed that they can also easily donate their cashback earned from our signature Shake reward that they get after every transaction. All donations made through Boost go directly to ACT,” Khairil said.
Boost chose to partner with ACT because of its long track records in providing quick response and valuable humanitarian aid for victims of natural disasters, and MKD being one of Boost Indonesia’s partner that is closest to provide assistance to the area affected by the tsunami.
An MKD representative said: “We encourage anyone who is able to donate to relief efforts in the Sunda Straits to please do so through Boost’s Indonesia Tsunami Relief fund. It’s faster and easier for us to receive your donations so we can stay focused on our efforts to help the victims on the ground. Every bit of financial help counts and right now, in a time of crisis, every second we can fully focus on providing humanitarian aid makes the difference between life and death.”
