Qatar Airways To Launch Services to Langkawi

DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways continues its expansion in Southeast Asia with the announcement that it will launch flights to Langkawi, the airline’s third destination in Malaysia.

The new service, which will operate starting four-times weekly via Penang, will commence on 15 October 2019. The service will subsequently be increased to five-times weekly from 27 October 2019.

Nature lovers will find much to enjoy in Langkawi, an archipelago of 99 picturesque islands
surrounded by the Andaman Sea on Malaysia’s west coast. Boasting glimmering turquoise waters and breathtaking beaches, Langkawi – ‘the Jewel of Kedah’ – is home to lush tropical rainforests and mangroves rich in flora and fauna. In addition, Langkawi was named ‘Fourth Best Island in Asia’ by Condé Nast Travellers’ Choice 2018.

Chief Minister of the State of Kedah, Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, said: “The expansion of Qatar Airways’ service to Langkawi International Airport opens up even greater tourism opportunities in Malaysia.
“Visitors will now be able to experience Langkawi’s unique culture and picturesque scenery,  in addition to creating memorable moments at the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, one of the finest tropical gems in Malaysia.”

Qatar Airways will fly five times per week to Langkawi, connecting through Penang with its state-of-the-art Airbus A330 aircraft, featuring 24 seats in Business Class and 236 seats in Economy Class, with spacious cabins and specially-designed interiors.

In addition to Langkawi, the National Carrier of the State of Qatar will launch a host of exciting new destinations in 2019, including Lisbon, Portugal; Malta; Rabat, Morocco; Davao, Philippines; Izmir, Turkey; and Mogadishu, Somalia.

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class’ by the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax.
