Self-Service Laundromat Chain Adopts Contactless Payments

Cleanpro Express partners Visa to become the first laundromat chain in Southeast Asia to offer contactless payments at its self-service machines. With the adoption of contactless payments, Malaysians will be able to use their contactless cards for payments at 300 outlets across Malaysia, including Aladin and Ibu Sayang outlets.

This partnership between Visa and Cleanpro Express brings greater convenience and payment options for Malaysians who are embracing a cashless lifestyle thus ensuring speedier customer service and greater efficiency for its operating team.

“This is the first time in Southeast Asia that we are introducing Visa contactless acceptance for a laundromat chain, and this is a milestone for Visa given that the laundromat industry is a heavily cash-based merchant,” says Mr. Ng Kong Boon, Visa Country Manager for Malaysia.

“Contactless payments can help Malaysians experience a more seamless checkout process, where they no longer need to fumble for cash when paying and can look forward to a speedier service.

For the merchant, labour hours required to count the cash collected at the machines are significantly reduced, and the staff can make better use of their time in managing their workload.

Today, the use of contactless payments are growing strong in Malaysia, and we are seeing more than seven million[1] transactions a month. This initiative is in line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s objective to increase the number of contactless payment terminals in Malaysia so as to progress into a more cashless society.”

“As a pioneer in the self-service laundry industry, we are committed to continuously bringing innovative solutions to our customers. We are excited to be the first in the region to offer our customers a more convenient, secure and seamless payment experience through the acceptance of contactless payments at all our Cleanpro Express, Aladin and Ibu Sayang laundromat outlets. We believe that our business and franchisees will benefit greatly as their overall operations expenditure will be reduced due to less cash handling, in addition to increase in productivity for our businesses and staff as we embark on this digitisation journey,” says Mr. Goh Sen Kiat, Group CEO of Cleanpro Laundry Holdings Sdn Bhd.
