Fish Noodles Hit The Spot At 45 Speak Vezy Bar

To me it looks like any average downtown restaurant, but 45SpeakVezy Bar is anything but!

I wandered in on a hot Tuesday afternoon, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and bizarre murals, vibrant walls and antique Chinese paraphernalia. The restaurant was not that busy — after lunch hour (almost 3pm) — but I was surprised there were customers still coming in.

The authenticity of the ambience and aroma drifting in from the kitchen captivated my senses. I was directed to a table in front near the entrance, but I wanted somewhere quieter to enjoy the surroundings and of course the much talked about authentic fish head noodles.

After ordering my bowl of signature fish head noodles, Alan Yun (the name rings a bell?) walked in — the Malaysian actor and owner of the popular Baba Nyonya restaurant Limapulo — insisted that I must try their new addition, the hotpot.

When the food arrived, my expectations continued to be exceeded. The soup was flavoursome and deliciously milky with a generous portion of fish. And not forgetting the hotpot which came with a variety of side orders. Believe it or not, you can add your beer into the soup. This is definitely a must-try!

Nothing beats enjoying a meal in a retro looking 1920’s pre-war shoplot. By the end of the meal I was planning my next visit.

Don’t let appearances fool you—the decor may be slightly too retro for some, but the food is fantastic. This place is perfect for groups or a casual date night.
