First Makerthon To Run On 5G Network

Following the success of Asean Makerthon 2017, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is organising the Asean Makerthon 2019 in collaboration with Celcom Axiata Berhad, Ericsson Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 2nd December till Wednesday 4th December at UTM-Ericsson 5G Innovation Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

This year’s Makerthon is the first to run on closed 5G network. The 5G Innovation centre was aptly chosen as venue for this year’s Makerthon as it houses a research lab, 5G learning centre and exhibits of 5G-related innovations.

Themed “5G Revolution Impacts Towards Industry 4.0 Revolution”, the event provides a platform for participants from the Asean region to showcase their talent, ideas and creativity in creating physical prototypes as well as gain experience by coming up with innovative solutions that highlights benefits of 5G network.

Participation for the Asean Makerthon 2019  is open to Asean member countries and Asean TELSOM (Chian, Japan, Republic of Korea, India, European Union countries and the United States) dialogue partners. There is no age limit imposed this year and the competition is not restricted to students of higher learning institutions only.

Prototypes created by participants will be judged by a panel of judges from institutions and companies who holds expertise in industry 4.0, 5G and Internet of Things, based on four criteria – idea, prototype, business model and presentation. Champion of the Makerthon will take away USD5,000 cash prize, while first runner-up and second runner-up will receive USD3,000 and USD1,000 cash prize respectively.
