Both quarantine centres have been allocated with 50 complimentary units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) terminals that deliver up to 500Mbps WiFi connectivity to the users and all WiFi usage charges on the 5G network are also free of charge.

This latest Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiative by TM is an extension of its recent participation in the 5G Demonstration Project (5GDP) in Langkawi and Subang Jaya; where the deployment at the quarantine centres utilises a similar 5G core network set up installed in Langkawi. With the Company’s 5G expertise, resources and experience, TM was able to deploy the base stations within just a few days.

“TM is honoured to have been given the opportunity by the Government to deploy our 5G base stations at the two quarantine centres. We have allocated 50 complimentary units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) terminals at both quarantine centres and we are providing FREE WiFi access on the 5G network for all users there,” said Dato’ Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, group chief executive officer, TM.

“Besides an extension of the recent 5GDP, this initiative is also part of our corporate responsibility efforts in assisting the Government towards curbing the Covid-19 pandemic. With the efficiencies and convenience of 5G connectivity, the frontliners and medical teams will be able to stay productive in their operations to respond to any emergency situations and provide the necessary treatments; while the patients will be able to stay connected with their families and loved ones during their stay at the quarantine facilities.”

“As the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia’s Digital Nation aspirations, we have established the communications backbone of Malaysia with the widest connectivity and convergence network. We will continue to lay the foundation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and rolling out 5G nationwide – serving a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government, towards improving the quality of lives of the Rakyat,” he added.

Additonally,  Zaidi Shahrim, chief executive officer, MARDI Corporation Sdn Bhd said, “We are pleased that MAEPS was chosen as one of the sites for the deployment of TM’s 5G base stations. We are confident that the enhanced 5G connectivity, provided with the courtesy of TM, will further improve the medical service delivery and this fully supports the Government’s various efforts in keeping the Covid-19 at bay and most importantly, breaking the chain.”

“We would like to extend our thanks to all Government and private agencies who have given their full commitment and support to ensure that we were able to convert the centre into a makeshift hospital within 4 days,” said Norafizah Rahman, chief operating officer, MARDI MAEPS Sdn Bhd.
