Government could lose up to RM2 billion a day if economic sector shuts down again

In a live televised address, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhiyiddin Yassin has expressed concern over the 13 new clusters, as double-digit cases are on the rise in recent days.

He has also urged for Malaysians to constantly wear face masks when they are out and to practice social distancing

The government is also considering a rule to make wearing face masks in public places compulsory.

The Prime Minister further stressed over the need for SOPs at workplaces and educational institutions.

He also pointed out that the economic sectors are starting to revive and many Malaysians have benefitted from the Covid-19 government aid.

65 percent of households have received moratorium benefits, totaling RM38.4 billion while RM11.14 billion have been channeled to 10.4 million PRIHATIN aid package recipients so far.

The PM also shared that 7,000 people have received the BSN micro credit facility, more than 23,000 people received the TEKUN assistance worth RM177 million.

Additionally, 6.7 million workers have benefitted from wage subsidy initiative. He also added that over 2.57 million jobs have been saved under the Wage Subsidy programme by the government.

“The government could lose up to RM2 billion in revenue each day if the economic sector shuts down again,” the Prime Minister highlights, if Malaysians do not adhere to the SOPs in place which could result in a surge of Covid-19 cases.
