Sunway Hotels & Resorts raises awareness in conjunction of World Cleanup Day through clean-up exercise

Sunway Hotels & Resorts, the hospitality division of Malaysian conglomerate Sunway Group, recently organised a clean-up exercise around the areas located within the vicinity of its hotels in conjunction with World Cleanup Day which takes place today. This feat involved more than 100 volunteers from participating Sunway Hotels which aims to unite the global community, raise awareness and implement true change to achieve a clean and healthy planet.

“We are proud to participate for the first time in this global movement. The support and participation from all the Sunway Hotels shows that people are taking the issue of waste management seriously in their local communities and that we can make a difference by just picking up litter around us for a better world. We hope to continue to participate in this annual event to educate our employees on the cleanliness of surrounding and a better living environment,” said K.L. Tan, Sunway Group Senior Managing Director for Chairman’s Office.

The total waste collected amounted to approximately more than 4,000 pieces or 367 kgs of trash and recyclable items from the vicinity of Sunway Hotels & Resorts located in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur – Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Sunway Pyramid Hotel and Sunway Clio Hotel together with the other Sunway Hotels, namely, Sunway Velocity Hotel Kuala Lumpur, The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, Sunway Hotel Georgetown in Penang and Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya plus one located overseas, Sunway Hotel Hanoi in Vietnam. Rubbish collected was segregated based on either recyclable or trash which was then sent to our refuse chambers for proper disposal.

Internationally, World Cleanup Day 2020 organises clean-ups large and small, urban and rural around the world. Citizens from 180 countries will participate in the upcoming World Cleanup Day across seven continents, uniting an estimated 21 million volunteers for a single day of action. Volunteers worldwide are united by the common issue of managing and ending global waste for a cleaner planet.
