Piaget is introducing a 38mm sized Altiplano Tourbillon in limited edition alongside another Altiplano Tourbillon Limited Edition in 41mm with blue lacquered dial. Piaget previously revealed in 2017 their first Altiplano Tourbillon in a 41mm case size.
Founded in 1874, Piaget was introduced by Georges Edouard Piaget who started it in the workshop on the family farm in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées and its expertise is in manufacturing ultra-thin watches. Ultra-thin has always been part of Piaget’s culture and keeps revolving years to years.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the ultra-thin movement, Piaget released ultra-thin Altiplano Flying Tourbillon in 2017. It consists of 157 ultra-thin and ultra-light components, such as a carriage measuring around 2.88mm, three titanium bridges weighing less than 0.2g. It also holds a patent for its stem mechanism, featuring an intermediate wheel that looks like a staircase and enables the user to set the time of the off-centred dial.
Before we go to an in-depth explanation of these watches, the Limited Editions in general has the ultra-thin flying tourbillon carriage in its round window. The watches are in 18K 5N rose gold, have an ultra-thin hand-wound tourbillon movement and a sapphire case back. This limited edition of 88 pieces consists 23 jewels and 157 components and it functions with an off-centered hours and minutes at 8 o’clock, flying tourbillon at 2 o’clock, seconds indicated by the tourbillon carriage at 2 o’clock also approximately 48 hours of power reserve.
For the white version, it shows up in a small 38mm and complemented with a bezel set with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds, approximately 1.03 carats. It is also engraved with a mother-of-pearl dial with sunray motif with dark grey coloured indexes and then finalised with grey alligator leather strap with 18K rose gold folding clasp set with 0.06 carats 24 brilliant-cut diamonds.
As for the blue version, the size is slightly bigger at 41mm embedded with a bezel set with 60 brilliant-cut diamonds. It is complete with blue lacquered dial with sunray motif and rose gold coloured indexes. Then it was touched with a dark blue alligator leather strap with 18K rose gold folding clasp set with 24 brilliant-cut diamonds.
