The 2-day Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2020 by Huawei kicked off today with the theme 5G for Good, Innovate for New Value.
Ken Hu, the Deputy Chairman of Huawei said in his opening speech that the 5G rollout by Huawei is in the fast lane as there are more than 400 5G devices available globally. He said that 5G is transforming various industries through Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidance & inspection, multifunctional robots, remote diagnosis, and remote ultrasound.
He then addressed the enablement of smart ports for a better and safer workplace with 5G, which has increased the efficiency at work by 20 percent and decreased labor costs by 50 percent.
5G has changed the way operations are taking place, especially in smart ports. “With 5G, crane drivers can operate the cranes from office rooms enabling them to work in a better environment,” Ken highlighted.
Although the 5G module price is declining, it still needs diversification because 5G can and will change everything. There are more than 1, 400 4G modules in the market, and only 140 5G modules,” he explained.
He added that it is important to come up with 5G business models that can fits everyone as the adoption for consumers and enterprises may differ.
“Every industry is willing to use it but they need to identify the need and access the practicality of the 5G connectivity, cloud services, and integration,” he concluded.
