The Embassy of Sweden, Business Sweden, and AstraZeneca, along with partners, Sunway iLabs, Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) have launched The Digital Health Innovation Challenge.
The initiative aims to identify solutions that empower Noncommunicable diseases (NCD) patients and high-risk communities.
This is to reduce the risk factors of these diseases by motivating a healthier lifestyle and increase accessibility to self-care and monitoring digital tools.
Notably, partnered startups will get access to incubation programmes, global innovation networks, mentorship and funding, and a chance to collaborate with the partners to solve healthcare issues in the country.
“The programme is a great opportunity for startups to explore solutions from various angles and work with partners to exchange knowledge and scale-up across borders,” Sara Hedin, the Swedish Trade Commissioner to Malaysia said.
“The Digital Health Innovation Challenge will certainly spur digital startups to develop new technologies and health care solutions that would support Malaysia’s health system development and public health,” Dr. Sanjeev Panchal, Country President AstraZeneca Malaysia added.
“Sunway iLabs believe that this initiative is a great example on how the company can accelerate market-driven healthcare innovations from entrepreneurs by leveraging corporate testbeds and international networks,” Matt Van Leeuwen, Chief Innovation Officer of Sunway Berhad and Director of Sunway Innovation Labs, commented.
Surina Shukri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MDEC, explained that by supporting programmes like The Digital Health Innovation Challenge, MDEC will further ramp up the development and improvement of Malaysia’s healthtech ecosystem as part of the ongoing efforts to realise the vision of Malaysia 5.0 and establish Malaysia as the heart of digital ASEAN.
“Startups should take this chance to showcase their capabilities and revolve during crucial times,” Dzuleira Abu Bakar, CEO of MaGIC, concluded.
Applicants may go to Digital Health Innovation Challenge Application Form, register for the Challenge and fill out all required Application Form text fields to submit their proposal in accordance with all terms and conditions specified in these Challenge Official Information and Rules.
