Wan Zulkiflee Ariffin, first non-American to join ExxonMobil’s board in its history

Exxon Mobil Corporation has announced the appointment of Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin as Exxon Mobil Corporate new board of directors.

Prior to this role, Wan Zulkiflee served as president and group chief executive officer of Petronas, led the strategic growth and efficiency initiative. During his tenure, Petronas reported multiple years of strong results and furthered the company’s investments in lower-emission technologies.

Darren Woods, Exxon chairman, and Chief Executive Officer offered a warm welcome to Wan Zulkiflee. “His global industry expertise coupled with his insights related to the energy transition will complement our highly experienced board,” he said.

Wan Zulkiflee is currently the non-executive chairman of the boards of Malaysia Airlines Berhad and DRB-HICOM Berhad, and he is involved in several initiatives dedicated to education and public sector leadership.

With his appointment, the ExxonMobil board will increase to 11 directors, 10 of whom are independent directors. ExxonMobil said that it continues discussions with other director candidates with a range of skillsets for potential addition to its board, as part of its ongoing refreshment process.
