MOSTI: Logistics Remain A Key Issue In Vaccine Distribution

Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) and Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, Khairy Jamaluddin has established the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to lead the drive for the vaccination programme.

MOSTI noted that the CITF  will not only be present in the national level but will also cover the vaccination drive on both state and district level.

“CITF will oversee the vaccine logistics, registration, categorisation of who will receive the vaccine, post-vaccination surveillance, vaccine administration, immunisation centres and human resource management.

The Task Force will also be involved in monitoring non-health logistics management [utilities, parking, ICT and non-ICT], documentation, registration and record-keeping, Geo-Dataraya management, strategic communications and volunteers,” Khairy emphasised.

However, MOSTI pointed out that the logistics remain one of the major issues since the programme will be carried out nationwide.

Generally, the Pfizer thermal shippers which will arrive in doses can be used as temporary storage units by refilling with dry ice every five days for up to 30 days of storage. Refrigeration units are commonly available in hospitals.

The vaccine can be stored for five days at refrigerated 2-8°C conditions.

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Armed Force (ATM) will be safeguarding the process and the safekeeping of the vaccines throughout the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
