U Mobile Provides Free Internet To 12 PPRs Nationwide

U Mobile, the data-centric and award-winning telco, is providing free internet connectivity to residents in 12 Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) locations across the nation as part of its Covid- 19 relief efforts.

The free internet access is open to all residents but is especially useful for students as the data is tailored for productivity and learning purposes. Residents can access the free internet service in the selected PPRs at specified locations in the various common areas. The telco’s latest effort is part of a joint industry initiative which kicked off in January 2021 and will run till Apr 30.

This initiative among several other initiatives by U Mobile, aims to address issues brought on by the pandemic. Other recent CSR efforts by U Mobile include:

  1. RM800,000 total contribution to IMARET and MERCY Malaysia for COVID-19 relief efforts

The funds received by IMARET and MERCY Malaysia were used to purchase a variety of medical equipment, PPEs and more.

  • Sponsorship of connectivity and devices to B40 students in Sabah and Penang

In Sabah, U Mobile partnered with HUAWEI to provide 60 devices coupled with postpaid plans to in-need students in Sabah via HanaFundMe, a crowdfunding platform.

In Penang, U Mobile contributed 340 postpaid simcards to participants of the empowerNCER: Akademik Pulau Pinang programme, in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia, the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) and Usains Holding Sdn Bhd. This initiative aims to raise the academic performance of primary and secondary school students in the B40 income category in the Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah areas.

  • Sponsorship of connectivity and devices to frontliners at Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Sabah

A total of 30 mobile phones bundled with postpaid simcards were provided free to medical frontliners to facilitate the care for Covid-19 patients via real time communications.

Additionally, on Jan 6, U Mobile introduced its 2021 SPM/ STPM Special Data Package in support of SPM and STPM students, which has since been expanded to include students in institutions of higher learning effective from 25 January 2021.

This is also part of a joint industry initiative, under the Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (PERMAI) Assistance Package announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, on 18 January 2021.

U Mobile has also extended the validity of its free 30GB per month (free 1GB daily) internet offering for productivity and learning purposes until 30 April 2021. This free 30GB is offered to all active U Mobile Postpaid and Prepaid customers. This extension is also in line with the Prime Minister’s PERMAI announcement. U Mobile has been continuously supporting the rakyat’s learning needs since 1 July 2020.
