The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has launched NaviGate: Capital Market Green Financing Series to focus on awareness and connectivity between green companies and the capital market.

The virtually held NaviGate focused on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the alternative capital market financing avenues available through Equity Crowdfunding (ECF) and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) financing.

Additionally, the Green Financing Survey carried out by the SC in 2020, also highlighted the high demand for smaller-scale financing options and the untapped financing opportunities within the green MSME segment.

“Since the launch of the digital platform back in 2016, RM1.3 billion funds have been raised through the platform until the end of December 2020 which benefitted around 3,000 MSMEs. Putrajaya has recognised the role of MSMEs thus the government will allocate an additional RM30 million and RM50 million in Budget 2021, for ECF and P2P investments respectively, through the Malaysia Co-Investment Fund,” Chairman of the SC, Syed Zaid Albar said.

The inaugural session was supported by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) and Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA).

According to SC, the Capital Market Green Financing Series will be scheduled two or three times this year and the next series is expected to be on Q2 or early Q3 this year as well.

MSMEs who would like to participate in the next NaviGate programme can submit their interest to [email protected].
