RHB: Digitalisation Agenda Needs A Future-Ready Workforce

Speaking at the RHB Investor Conference: “A transformative Leap”  Minister of Economic Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Department, Mustapha Mohamed  highlighted Malaysia’s current digital landscape in accordance with the implementation of Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDigital) Initiative.

“As the country is transforming towards becoming an advanced digital economy, the Government is pushing to enable the whole ecosystem into a digital society. Hence, challenges for digital adoption must first be addressed. Three focus area includes digital adoption, data sharing, and analytic and digital skills,”  he said.

In 2030, Malaysia is targeting to achieve an agile and data-driven government, a seamless and extensive digital economy,  and an innovative digital economy growth. 

“Through the implementation of MyDigital blueprint, the society will gradually accelerate. It will force all businesses and the investor community to adapt. We have seen consumers shifting their preferences and becoming more confident to utilise e-payment solutions.

There has been an increase in digital financial providers, online payment transactions, and digital investment mechanism nationwide. Businesses need to remain agile with their digital acceleration agenda for a sustainable future,” he added.

However, there are challenges in term of a digital-first mindset and higher digital technology adoption across the public sectors. 

Mustapha also highlighted that, to build a more supportive ecosystem and inclusivity, the workforce needs to be digitally equipped. “We are concerned about the connectivity and inclusivity as we embark into becoming a digital society.”

Adding to it, the rolling of transformative of 5G network will help Malaysia attain digital competitiveness as it will further accelerate businesses and consumers’ productivity.

“The overall effects of 5G will contribute to the economy, employment and socio-economic that will promote better quality life and urban-rural migration. It also brings new opportunity for disruptive business models, as well as increasing the regional competitiveness among the country which already ahead with the 5G deployment,” he commented.

Notably,  the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) national digital infrastructure plan,  a strategy to provide all Malaysians with quality access to digital connection nationwide has recorded a commendable achievement since its implementation in September 2020.

5G deployment will enable fair and non-discriminatory access to network capacity including the regulatory tools. With the rising spectrum in digitalisation, the Government will also be heightened the strategy for safe and ethical digital activities, improving the cross-border data transfer and increasing the cybersecurity uptake among businesses.
