Gas infrastructure and centralised utilities company, Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) has highlighted that, in conjunction with Petronas going zero net carbon emission by 2050, PGB will move forward with the same aspirations as needed.

PGB’s Chairman and Petronas Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gas + New Energy, Adnan Zainol Abidin said the company will adopt the aspiration of being sustainable which is in line with the group’s target.

During the President’s Townhall Oct 28, 2020, Petronas’s President and Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Tengku Muhammad Taufik has announced that their aspiration, to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is part of the ongoing global push towards the transition to cleaner energy.

“We are making this commitment to make a positive change, not only to ride the energy transition, but because a fundamental shift is needed and the organisation wants to be part of the solution, for the world that yearns for a path towards a more sustainable future,” the GCEO said.

The net zero carbon emissions by 2050 will stretch Petronas’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions to net zero and create new and inclusive opportunities that contribute towards an equitable socioeconomic development.

“We will adopt the aspiration by Petronas in moving forward with the net zero carbon emissions by 2050 as it is still in line with the group target for now. We will publish our [PGB] sustainability efforts one time at a time in the future,” Adnan concluded at the virtual 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

“In addition to sustaining our core business, we will be focusing on three key growth areas: Firstly, to position PGB in providing integrated solutions for power and utilities in the new industrial zones in Malaysia.

Secondly, to explore opportunities to grow in Malaysia and regional power generation and regasification capacities including operation and maintenance services, leveraging on our experience and expertise. Finally, PGB is also identifying step out opportunities, assessing businesses that are adjacent to our existing business; and relevant to energy transition,” PGB’s Managing Director and CEO, Abdul Aziz Othman said.
