Visa Malaysia has partnered with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in championing the acceleration of Malaysia’s fintech industry by enabling businesses with seamless digital payment adoption.
The partnership also aims to support the next wave of Malaysian fintech, startups, and solution providers to go global.
Country manager for Visa Malaysia, Ng Kong Boon said the partnership is a huge testament to grow the fintech agenda.
“This year we see the rapid growth in digitalisation. Most businesses are forced to experiment with e-commerce and some are deploying it for their first time. Our participation with MDEC is significant to help sustain digital payment adoption, as we believe it is here to stay,” he said.
Visa has also introduced the Visa Accelerator cohort to enable more funding, business development, market access, technology and legal compliance.
“The financial tech players have been innovative during this challenging moment. As we continue to develop the need for inclusive finances is pivotal. We also need to be objective in the delivery mechanism, ” Surina Shukri, MDEC’s Chief Executive Officer said.
“This partnership is not just to advance digital adoption, but to also drive financial technology ecosystem and encourage more e-commerce adoption especially among the MSMEs. We have seen a huge uptake among them. These groups need support. We are here to drive their digital skills as well,” she added.
Gopi Ganesalingam, MDEC Vice President of Global Growth Acceleration said, “We are working towards bringing up a more robust and legally compliant ecosystem. Through our boosting programme, the Sandbox initiative and Bank Negara’s approval, this can be achieved.”
