Astro Confirms Netflix As New Streaming Partner

After a short speculation, Astro has confirmed that it will be partnering Netflix to bring the popular streaming service to its platform very soon.

Customers of the satellitia service who not welcomed Disney Hotstar into their living rooms can now add Netflix into their library of channels to surf. Astro will be offering the service over its Ultra Boxes which currently deliver on demand services connected to the home internet connection.

Henry Tan, Group Chief Executive Officer of Astro said, “Our partnership with Netflix consolidates Astro’s position as the No.1 entertainment destination for Malaysians by offering the best streaming services alongside our own best-loved originals, vernacular signatures, live sports and local blockbuster movies. Our announcements to date will extend our leadership in delivering the best entertainment experience to Malaysians.”

Tony Zameczkowski, Vice President for Business Development APAC, Netflix said, “From Hollywood films like Army of the Dead, to top series like La Casa de Papel from Spain, Lupin from France, and great Korean dramas like Vincenzo, we believe that great stories can come from anywhere and be loved everywhere. I’m thrilled that our partnership with Astro allows us to bring a world class multi-device entertainment experience to more Malaysians.”

The satellite broadcaster has been seeing declining subscription base since the introduction OTT players into the market, however with the addition of Netflix Astro could possibly acquire the user base from the streaming provider who is known for some popular original series.
