Lazada Partners MoF and MDEC To Support SMEs Through Online Initiatives

Lazada is joining hands with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) once again to support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and products through this year’s ‘Shop Malaysia Online’ and ‘Go-eCommerce’ initiatives that will run concurrently from 1st July – 31st December on Lazada.

Lazada’s ‘Shop Malaysia Online’ campaign will actively promote local businesses and products on the platform with exciting 50% discounts vouchers and Crazy Flash Sale, along with Daily Free Shipping to encourage Malaysians to shop and support “local” as part of the “Shop Malaysia Online” campaign. While Lazada’s Go-eCommerce campaign will help support SMEs on the fence of going digital to flatten their barriers of entry further. On top of the campaign incentives, new sellers will also leverage Lazada’s enhanced Pintar Niaga stimulus package with benefits worth RM1,500, zero commission and startup cost to leverage the vast benefits of eCommerce on Lazada during the campaign.

“The spread of the global pandemic has undoubtedly affected the economy. We saw local communities playing an active role to spur economic recovery through online consumption, with sales of close to RM130 million during the Shop Malaysia Online campaign on Lazada last year. We are pleased to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and MDEC once again to provide exciting incentives for shoppers to continue to support local businesses on our platform. We have also been focusing on helping local businesses in their digitalization journey as they continue to navigate through the economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic,” said Darren Rajaratnam, Chief Operating Officer, Lazada Malaysia.

“MDEC holds steadfast to its resolve to equip and enable Malaysian businesses to navigate and thrive through these business unusual times. With strong support from the Government and effective public-private collaborations, we aim to further catalyse the growth of eCommerce in Malaysia and of equal importance, sustaining livelihoods and jobs in the process. Together, we can accomplish the goals of MyDIGITAL and place us firmly on-course towards Malaysia 5.0; a globally competitive digital nation, anchored on inclusivity, sustainability and shared prosperity, firmly establishing Malaysia as the Heart of Digital ASEAN,” said Surina Shukri, CEO, MDEC.

“Lazada was the first eCommerce platform to provide support for local businesses during the first and second Movement Control Orders, investing more than RM50 million through our Pakej Kedai Pintar stimulus packages. We have continued investing and supporting the MSME community over the last 18 months through various initiatives and partnerships with MDEC and the local government. Since then, there has been a more than 300% increase in new MSMEs onboarding our eCommerce platform, future-proofed thousands of local businesses and enabled local MSMEs to adapt and pivot into recovery and growth mode,” added Rajaratnam.

The Lazada’s ‘Shop Malaysia Online’ campaign will offer additional incentives to consumers when they shop ‘local’ online with 50% discounts on vouchers and Crazy Flash Sale, and daily Free Shipping all day via this link.
Adding on to the excitement, Lazada Wallet users can take part in the Wallet Heartbeat Experience contest to win special prizes from Photobook, KaoDim and Pacificia. Each Lazada Wallet transaction qualifies as one entry.

Even more extensive than the previous edition, this year’s ‘Shop Malaysia Online’ campaign is a sale Malaysians won’t want to miss out on. Shoppers can enjoy storewide 50% off vouchers from top brands such as Senheng, Old Town White Coffee, Khind, Secret Recipe and Fipper from 1st July until 2nd July. Shoppers can also look forward to daily Brand Mega Offers, Coins cashback and 55% Wallet Sundae Vouchers.

With the nationwide lockdown and local travel restrictions, Lazada aims to support these affected local industries and businesses by increasing their presence on the platform and connecting them with more than 1 in 3 Malaysians who currently shop on Lazada.
