Dine-In, Travel, Social Activities Among Relaxation For Those Vaccinated

There has been anticipation when the Prime Minister announces some of the relaxation the government will introduce for those who have received both doses of the vaccine.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is reportedly about to make this announcement in a couple of days as the country looks to move into the National Recovery Phase. “We will finalise (the details) and I will announce it as a total package,” he said in a special interview with the media.

Among the relaxation of the SOP restrictions include travel within Malaysia, inter-state movement for spouses working separately, social activities, sports and dine-in at restaurants. The proposed easing comes of the back of accelerated vaccination program which of late reached peaks of 500,000, among the fastest in the world. There has been calls for further relaxation of SOP’s with more than 50% having received at least one dose, “I do hope that this (relaxation) will give room or space, breathing space, for the people to live a slightly better life,” added Muhyiddin.

Some of the states are currently in Phase 2 of the recovery plan, however key states like Selangor and Kuala Lumpur continue to be under lockdown due to high Covid-19 cases. Cross border travel is still prohibited, easing of this rule is just a matter of weeks away, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul had said that the 40% vaccination threshold could see more openings of sectors and restriction.

The NRP is scheduled to be tabled by the prime minister in the Special Meeting of the Third Session of the 14th Parliament. Although the session would be opened for debate, the Prime Minister remains firm to proceed with the plans until the country is back on track.
