TNB CIO Awarded Regional Accolade In Digital Transformation

Digital transformation is disrupting every industry by breaking down barriers between people, businesses and things. Transformative innovations in technologies such as networking, security, collaboration and multicloud are making their presence felt in enterprises at exponential speed, and ushering-in the change businesses need, to not only survive but thrive.

And to do that, CIOs and their teams must work in tandem to create the next-gen enterprise. The CIO Circle of Excellence Awards is a platform that recognises and celebrates visionary CIOs who have made significant contributions to the acceleration of digital transformation and led their organisations to success – in other words, achieved business resiliency.

The CIO Circle of Excellence event organised by CNBC, Cisco and Moneycontrol sets out to recognise the individuals or teams in the organisation who sees the vision and charts the the path towards that goal. This year the event awarded TNB Chief Information Officer Datuk Fazil Ibrahim the CIO Circle of Excellence Award 2021 in the Silver category for his exceptional tasks in rolling out digital transformation exercises during the pandemic.

CIOs from the ASEAN, China, Korea, Japan, India, Australia-New Zealand and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries, took part in the event where a set of judges will scour through the application. The winners were selected for their leadership skills in assisting their organisations to achieve business resiliency through digital transformation. Datuk Fazil said “This achievement resonates well with our consistent efforts towards digitalisation in delivering robust infrastructure and technologies,” said Fazil in his acceptance speech. “We were able to respond immediately by providing nearly 35,000 TNB workforce nationwide with comprehensive work-from-home support right from the start, even before the pandemic began.”

TNB’s success in implementing the Webex Unified Communication and Dual Sim Router projects epitomise the utility’s world-class capabilities and technological excellence, in line with its aspiration to become the leading provider of sustainable energy solutions in Malaysia and internationally. Through the Webex Unified Communication project, TNB has successfully minimised the impact on its business operations and productivity during the pandemic by facilitating the need of its workforce in having departmental unit meetings, town hall sessions, workshops, and training.

The Dual Sim Router project is a collaboration with TNB Distribution Network and ICT Division that has brought tremendous value to TNB in reducing electricity supply restoration time to its 9.4 million customers through improved network availability and latency. As a result, the Dual Sim Router project has successfully helped TNB to achieve a world-class System of Average Interruption Duration Index or SAIDI to 44.95 minutes in Financial Year 2020,” added Fazil. For the record, TNB’s SAIDI figure for 2019 was 48.13 minutes.
