Southern Cable Lands New Deal From Telekom Malaysia

Cable and wire manufacturer Southern Cable Group Berhad is benefitting in the country’s rapid roll out of telecommunication network in bid to get nationwide coverage for 4G and later for 5G. The specialised manufacturer is well positioned as a key player in supplying important hardware in the telecommunication industry.

Telekom Malaysia the largest telco in the country has also been busy with network expansion and itself gearing for the next evolution in the industry has just handed a RM30.4 million contract for the supply of rectifier systems to Southern Cable. The orders will require to be fullfille over a 30 month period.

Under the agreement, the cable manufacturer would supply, deliver, install, test and commission rectifier systems, including associated engineering services and accessories for TM’s regional hubs in Peninsular and East Malaysia. Rectifier is a device that converts electrical alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), which are required for the operations of some transmission applications and devices

TM has been a long time client for the company, assisting alongside for more than 18 years, in setting up the nations telecommunication infrastructure. This latest contract is the largest rectifier systems ever handed out purportedly in preparation for the telco giants digital expansion for Jendela and 5G.

Vendors in the industry are looking forward on the country’s mega plans including the ones by Digital Nasional Berhad which will undertake the deployment of the 5G infrastructure and network nationwide. It was reported that 5G services are expected to launch by the end of 2021 in key cities such as Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.

While districts, namely Selangor, Penang, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak are expected to start deploying 5G by 2022
