MATRADE Promoting Malaysian Brands At CAEXPO China

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is leading and coordinating the participation of 58 Malaysian companies, offering various Malaysian made products and services at the upcoming 18th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) 2021. 

CAEXPO is one of the major exhibitions supported by the Chinese government, which returns this year in a hybrid mode for the second time. It will be held physically at Nanning International Convention & Exhibition Centre (NICEC) with a virtual exhibition component organised from 10 – 13 September 2021. 

YAB Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be delivering his speech virtually during the Opening Ceremony of 18th CAEXPO 2021 on 10 September 2021. A total of 39 Malaysian companies will participate in hybrid mode (both physical and virtual), while 19 companies will participate only virtually in the exhibition which includes companies from East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC). Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Education Malaysia (EM) will be participating by setting up their information counters in the physical Malaysia Pavilion. 

Tourism Malaysia (TM) will showcase the various attractive tourism destinations of Malaysia in the Malaysia Pavilion. The sectors promoted in CAEXPO 2021 include Health and Wellness, Food & Beverages and Lifestyle.

According to MATRADE’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, “CAEXPO has been a significant platform in enhancing bilateral trade since its inception. This event has evolved over the years in tandem with the milestones of bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and China. It also maintains its relevance for Malaysian companies to access China market and ASEAN market as well as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries.”

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN. The theme for this year’s CAEXPO is “Advancing Quality BRI Cooperation, Promoting Sustainable Development” aimed to leverage on the China-ASEAN Year of Sustainable Development and to deliver more practical sustainable development of economic outcomes as well as to strengthen the China-ASEAN relation.

MATRADE will continue to collaborate with China Construction Bank (CCB) to organize the 3rd China – Malaysia B2B Business Meeting Session on 11 September 2021. This is a virtual business meeting that will be held in conjunction with CAEXPO, leveraging CCB’s business matching platform, CCB Match Plus. His Excellency Mr. Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia will grace the event.

MATRADE also collaborates with Overseas Prominent Brands (OPB), to arrange business meeting session and livestreaming session with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL).

Since 2009, China has been the largest trading partner for Malaysia for 12th consecutive years and accounted for 18.6% of Malaysia’s total trade in 2020. Trade with China in 2020, was valued at RM331.44billion, with a growth rate of 4.7%. Total export was recorded at RM159.22 billion, while total import was RM172.22 billion.

For the first seven months of 2021, Malaysia’s trade with China expanded by 29.8% to RM233.40 billion compared to the same period in 2020. Exports rose by 21.2% to RM103.22billion while imports from China increased by 37.6% to RM130.18 billion
