Memorable Fashion Statements From Met Gala 2021

Famously known as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the Met Gala 2021 is a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event welcomes celebrities, young creatives, and industry paragons.

The theme at the 2021 Met Gala was “American Independence” or “In America” and, that was exactly what the viewers got.

Although its famous guests must follow Covid-19 rules, including wearing masks indoors, that hasn’t stopped many going for all-out glamour.

Some celebrities wore thoughtful and creative ensembles with deep symbolism and meaning, such as National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman’s blue gown and headpiece inspired by Statue of Liberty.

There were political statements, including Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez’s white dress with “tax the rich” scrawled in red on the back.

Actor Dan Levy showed off an outfit that was a map of the world with two men kissing on the front. Megan Fox explained her dress fit the theme because she’s American, and she was wearing it.

Other famous celebrities that graced the event are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Emily Ratajkowski, Kim Kadarshian, Anna Wintour, Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish and a slew of other famous faces.

However, a handful of celebrities announced they would not attend this year’s Met Gala, including Nicki Minaj, who said her absence was due to the event’s vaccine requirements. Other notable absences included Lady Gaga, Blake Lively, Zendaya, Billy Porter, and Harry Styles.
