Sunway ILabs and the Japanese External Trade Organisation (Jetro) are looking forward to work with five startups shortlisted in the Digital Transformation Acceleration Program.

The five startups are leveraging technology to provide innovative solutions in their respective industries, empowering communities, improving lives, and reducing negative impact to the environment, says Sunway iLabs Ventures Head Dr Melissa Foo.

Sunway Innovation Labs (Sunway iLabs) selected this third batch of startups to undergo the programme organised in collaboration with JETRO KL a Japanese government-related organisation that promotes trade and investment.

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Sunway iLabs for the third time,” said JETRO KL Director Yuhei Enguchi. He further added that the accelerator programme has fostered great success stories, from networking and running pilot projects within the Sunway ecosystem, to set up a base in Malaysia.

“We want the entrepreneurs to use this opportunity to do extensive market research, test their solutions, and find product or market fit in this diverse region,” said Sunway Group Chief Innovation Officer and Sunway iLabs Director Matt Van Leeuwen.

“We are confident that the Sunway ecosystem has the right ingredients for the startups to do just that and propel their growth across Malaysia and Southeast Asia,” Matt added.

The selected startups of this cohort fall within the five verticals of Fintech, Business Software as a Service (SaaS), Digital Health, Carbon Neutral and Agri-food Tech. The top five companies are:

Bee Informatica Ltd., Inc.

A microfinancing startup that utilises psychometric assessments with a focus on women business owners in Malaysia.

Samaira Co., Ltd.

A Japanese cartoon and animation platform with anti-piracy and content protection utilising blockchain technology.

Scala, Inc.

A startup that develops an agricultural production database to provide real time farm process monitoring for farm managers.

Suncreer Co., Ltd.

TBM Co., Ltd.

A startup specialised in manufacturing and distributing LIMEX, a sustainable and alternative material for plastic and paper that is made of limestone and inorganic materials.

Throughout the six-month-long programme, startups will be provided one-to-one mentorship from key leaders within Sunway, opportunities to meet potential business partners, attend workshops, and connect with Sunway’s 13 business divisions and Sunway City Kuala Lumpur’s thriving ecosystem.

This is in line with Sunway’s vision to position Sunway City Kuala Lumpur as a living laboratory bringing in experts to generate sustainable, real-world solutions for the future urban spaces towards the betterment of the environment and humankind.
