TNB Awards 93 Scholarship To Deserving SPM Students

Tenaga Nasional Berhad has been actively involved in nurturing human capital, its UNITEN University was established to ensure the country is not without talented engineers and not only that the through the Yayasan Tenaga Nasional the utility giant has been continuously talent growth by awarding scholarship to potential students.

Recently, the body awarded 93 scholarships to academically excellent students who portrayed sound leadership qualities including being active in co-curricular activities, with the scholarship they can pursue their studies at universities locally and abroad.

They were chosen among 8,400 applicants who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in 2020 with 20 beneficiaries to pursue their degree in Electrical Power Engineering, Accounting/Finance, or Data Science & Analytics abroad. Another 73 students will further their studies in Electrical Power Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Business, or Accounting at UNITEN.

Since its inception in 1993, TNB has contributed over RM1.2 billion in the form of MyBF Bursary (RM66 million), scholarships (RM597 million) and convertible loans (RM547 million) to more than 18,500 students. Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan regarded the initiative as a manifestation of TNB’s close relationship with the rakyat and said, “On behalf of the Federal Government, I am truly grateful to Tenaga Nasional Berhad for its effort to support the government to improve the quality of life of the rakyat, especially as the country is still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I understand that TNB through YTN has contributed RM426 million in the Regulatory Period 2 (RP2) from 2018 to July 2021 for scholarships, convertible loans and My Brighter Future (MyBF) Bursary,” he said at the YTN Scholarship Award Ceremony which was held via hybrid method in ILSAS last Friday. Also present, TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Baharin Din; YTN Director, Dato’ Ir. Dr Ibrahim Hussein and TNB top management.

Takiyuddin said TNB’s education initiatives were really helpful in supporting the government to help improve the quality of life of the rakyat, especially students from the lower income group, B40. Hence, the beneficiaries will have to make full use of the scholarship awarded bythe utility company. “TNB’s approach to always be together with the rakyat in education is a commendable effort that is underpinned by values of mindfulness for the benefit of the country. It is also a manifestation of a meaningful relationship between the rakyat as customers of TNB, underlined by the philosophy of sharing prosperity among each other,” he added.

Meanwhile, TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Baharin Din said TNB is committed to helping the government to increase the development of quality human capital for the country’s growth. “At TNB, we believe that through education, the potential of human capital will be polished further and in turn will contribute to improving the living standards of the people as well as giving rise to the development of the country.”
