Now that interstate travel has been allowed, we can expect an increase in job creation in the coming months, backed by increasing domestic-oriented business activities and labour.

MIDF Research anticipated recovery in Malaysia’s job market by the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021 as they maintain their projection for the national unemployment rate this year to average around 4.5 percent.

The easing of restrictions following the improved COVID-19 situation and encouraging progress in the vaccination program helps pave the way for increased job opportunities.

According to MIDF, the labour market has begun to recuperate, with the unemployment rate falling to 4.6 percent in August 2021.

Despite this, total employment increased to a new high, with overall employment rising by +0.5% MoM to a new high of over 15.4 million people.
