All Construction Operations Permitted Without MITI’s Letter

All operations in the construction sector no longer require a letter of authorisation through COVID-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0. This follows the announcement by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob regarding cross -state permits throughout the country for those who have received a complete vaccination.

However, operations in the construction sector are still subject to the current standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the National Recovery Plan (VAT). To ensure that the COVID-19 epidemic can be curbed at construction sites, all industry players are reminded to comply with the SOPs set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the Malaysian Safety Council (NSC).

All workers must be made free of COVID-19 before being allowed to work on a construction site. Employers need to make sure all employees scan My Sejahtera or fill out the attendance book before starting work each day. If any employee is found to have symptoms of COVID-19, they should undergo a COVID-19 screening test. If there is a positive case of COVID-19 at the construction site, the employer must report to the District Health Office (PKD).

Apart from complying with the NSC SOP, industry players must also continue to ensure that all provisions of Act 520 including Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988) and Act 446 (Minimum Standards of Housing and Employee Facilities Act 1990) are complied with at all times.
