The SUPERB program, based on business pitching with a start-up grant reward worth up to RM500,000, is now further strengthened with a new, broader-focused intensive accelerator training segment. The capacity building accelerator program introduced will ensure that the participants are able to understand the continuity of the business ideas from the process of starting a business, management skills, expanding the network and stabilising their business.

Participants who pass the initial screening stage will undergo an accelerator program at several stages. TERAJU as a strategic enabler in strengthening the Bumiputera socioeconomic agenda, emphasises on the development of business fundamentals from the aspect of business management and the growth of active and extensive business network for entrepreneurs.

“The potential of start-up companies is huge, for example on a global scale, this value reaches USD3 trillion, equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the G7 economies. In Malaysia, the growth of start-up companies has had a positive impact on the country’s economy, creating many new jobs and contributing to the GDP. In fact, Malaysia scored 10 in terms of performance and market reach in the Global Start-Up Ecosystem Report 2020 (GSER 2020),” he adds.

This year, SUPERB is emphasising on business ideas that revolves around KEGA under the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030. The ten categories of economic growth activities that became the themes for SUPERB are digital economy, Islamic finance, tourism, manufacturing, halal and food, agriculture and commodities, defense and security, modular construction, aerospace, as well as logistics, transportation and sustainable mobility.

Through SUPERB 2021, Bumiputera entrepreneurs have the opportunity not only to improve their business pitching techniques, but also to upgrade the quality of their business ideas as well as becoming entrepreneurs with integrity, innovation and resilience who are able to bring their businesses to the local and international markets. The program also emphasises the importance of digitisation in facing the challenges of today’s business world.

The SUPERB program was improved by taking into account the feedback of the jurors from the previous pitching series. An issue often highlighted to the participants were weaknesses in terms of basic business knowledge, other than their pitching techniques.

For this year, SUPERB 2021 took the initiative to launch a capacity building accelerator program that will last for six weeks for the participants to enhance their fundamental business knowledge.
