Multicare Sends Aid To Karak Fire Victims

Multicare Pharmacy, a member of Sunway Group, went to the aid of victims in Karak who had lost their homes and businesses in a devastating fire, extending aid of more than RM20,000 to the victims and rescue team.

The donations were distributed across three days by Multicare’s pharmacists and pharmacy assistants who visited the affected areas to extend help and comfort to the victims as well as the rescue team through their Disaster Relief programme.

The fire which broke out at Kampung Baru Cina in Karak, Pahang, on October 1, destroyed more than 50 homes and eight shop lots leaving more than 150 people in the village homeless. While there were zero fatalities and injuries, the devastated families had to be evacuated to the nearby Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Karak.

Multicare Group CEO and Founder Mr Lang says, “The families have lost everything in the fire that spread quickly. While we are relieved that there are no casualties, we deeply empathise with their trauma of losing their homes and everything a home represents.”

He added that in addition to providing essential foodstuff that would last for more than a week and personal and home care packages that include essential personal hygiene products such as detergent, soaps, shampoo as well as medicine, the Multicare team’s donation also included 70 daily-use items from 35 sponsors.

The volunteers distributed COVID-19 antigen test kits, oximeters, face masks, sanitisers and gloves to the firefighters, the police and JKKK (Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung) as part of the assistance.
