Nurul Izzah: Insufficient Management Of Fallout From Pandemic

Permatang Pauh member of Parliament, Nurul Izzah Anwar Ibrahim tells Business Today that the government did not sufficiently address the fallout from the pandemic through the Budget 2022.

“The devil is again in detailed implementation. I had hoped for more systemic solutions along a continuum of recovery,” she says.

She adds that while the nation celebrates the small wins through Budget 2022 in the areas of job security, empowerment of D11, tablet giveaways to B40 university students, as well as the introduction of a windfall tax, she adds that it requires refinement in several items.

“Especially I see failure in utilising the full poverty line income (PLI )2019 (RM2208) as compared to the PLI food (RM1169).

“Also, there is a lack of a clear cut cross-ministerial plan to plug in educational losses (income & school hours). Finally what about addressing the reduction of budget allocated for health (from 2.1 % of GDP to 2.0 %),” she queries.
