RM52.6 Billion For Ministry Of Education

Minister of Finance Tengku Zafrul Aziz says RM52.6 billion or 16 percent of the total estimated Federal expenditure is earmarked for the Ministry of Education.

“This budget continues to prioritize education as the most important segment of national spending. The Ministry of Education Malaysia will continue to receive the largest allocation of 52.6 billion ringgit or 16 percent of the total estimated Federal expenditure,” he says.

“Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education will be allocated a total of 14.5 billion ringgit,”

He adds that there is nothing more exciting for children when they can go back to school face to face with friends.

For the year 2022, the Government has agreed to provide Early Schooling Assistance of 150 ringgit, an increase from 100 ringgit. A total of 450 million ringgit is allocated which is expected to benefit 3 million eligible students.

With the opening of schools, a conducive learning environment for children will continue to be given attention.

Next year, a total of 1 billion ringgit is provided for school maintenance and repair work. This allocation also includes 140 million ringgit to JAKIM to maintain, among others, tahfiz schools, rakyat religious schools and registered pondok institutions, which is an increase from 100 million ringgit in 2021.

The maintenance allocation to more than 10 thousand schools under the Ministry of Education will be distributed according to the type of school-based on a uniform rate.

For 2022, a total of 120 million ringgit is provided for the benefit of 1,800 Chinese National Type Schools as well as Tamil National Type Schools.

In addition, next year, the Government will continue to upgrade poor schools with the allocation increased to 746 million ringgit.

“The bulk of this allocation is to upgrade poor schools with 112 projects in Sabah and 165 projects in Sarawak. To strengthen the special education agenda, the Government has provided RM50 million, among others, to fund the purchase of teaching equipment and to improve school facilities for special needs. Apart from that, a total of eight new special education blocks were also built, among them at SMK Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen in Perlis and SMK Agama Alor Gajah in Melaka,” he says.
