Ministry Of Transport Malaysia Welcomes The 2022 BUDGET

1. The Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) welcomes the 2022 budget themed “Malaysian Family – Prosperous Abundance” by focusing on three (3) main axes, namely strengthening recovery, building resilience, and driving reform. The 2022 Budget shows that the Government is very concerned about the lives of Malaysian families as many are still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, even though most sectors of the economy have opened up.

2. MOT also fully supports efforts, especially in the transport sector to be implemented by the Government through Budget 2022 through several initiatives aimed at further strengthening the well -being of the people, ensuring business continuity and ensuring the country’s economic resilience remains strong at a time when the country and the world are still facing economic uncertainty due to pandemics. COVID-19. MOT has been allocated RM5.58 billion in the 2022 Budget which will be used to fund the Ministry’s Operating Expenditure (RM1.527 billion) and Development Expenditure (RM4.053 billion).

3. To improve the efficiency of government service delivery and increase the number of Road Transport Department (JPJ) business solutions to the public as well as increase national revenue, MOT has received allocation for the procurement of twenty (20) JPJ Mobile counter vehicles to be distributed nationwide in the 2022 budget this time. This mobile counter will enable JPJ to provide counter services to all parts of the country, especially remote areas. In addition, it can also reduce congestion at JPJ counters to curb the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic and meet the urgent needs of JPJ to provide facilities to the public to resolve transactions that were disrupted when previously there were restrictions to cross districts / states due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. As an effort towards the digitization of government service delivery, MOT has also allocated one hundred (100) kiosks with complete customer-oriented computer facilities at UTC to be distributed throughout Malaysia to facilitate the public in resolving JPJ-related matters in a flexible time. This can also encourage the public to complete transactions online and print documents at kiosks without having to go to the JPJ counter. Indirectly, it can also reduce dependence on JPJ counter services and diversify channels to carry out transactions as well as ensure a more optimal use of JPJ manpower based on priority areas.

5. Improvements in the delivery of JPJ services through the addition of mobile counters, kiosks and computers will also ensure smooth revenue collection. This is important because the results obtained will be channeled back for the convenience of Malaysians through various Government programs and initiatives

6. The 2022 Budget also sees the Government’s concern for road safety for children. This is because based on the statistics of 2019, as many as 19% of those involved in road accidents are children. Of these, a total of 1,276 cases involved deaths. In this regard, the Government has allocated about RM30 million to 188,000 recipients from the B40 group to enjoy 50% rebate or up to RM150 incentive for the purchase of child safety seats (Child Restraint Systems-CRS). The proposed rebate will be able to ease the burden of the B40 group to buy CRS and at the same time can ensure the safety of children who are the future assets of the country.

7. MOT appreciates the Government’s concern to continue subsidies for Non-Economic Train (TTE) services and MyRail5 Program for 2022. This initiative can alleviate the financial burden of the target group, namely school students and the disabled affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as encourage the use of transportation. public especially rail among the target group. Apart from that, the MOT welcomes the Government’s announcement to fully bear the motor vehicle license fees for the disabled which will directly reduce the cost of living for the disabled.

8. The Government’s commitment to public transport is also evidenced by the assistance announced for bus and rail operations of RM115 million which includes Unlimited Bus and Rail Travel Passes at a price of RM50 per month for users in the Klang Valley and RM80 million for the Temporary Bus Stop Assistance Fund. Stop it.

9. MOT also welcomes road tax exemption for electric vehicles that have Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) features. This move is in line with the National Transport Policy which focuses on sustainable transport as well as supporting Green Transport initiatives.

10. The Ministry of Transport welcomes the allocation of a subsidy of RM209 million for rural air transport services for the benefit of local residents. This ongoing subsidy allocation is in line with the Government’s commitment in providing rural air transport services provided by MASwings for the convenience of residents in rural Sabah and Sarawak where air transport is the main mode of transport connecting rural residents with the outside world.

11. The MOT will continue to ensure that the allocation provided will be used according to plans and initiatives are implemented properly and give a high impact to the people. This plan will continue the government’s concern initiatives to help all Malaysian families in difficult times, especially during the post-COVID-19 pandemic. This will also be able to help the transport sector recover when the situation gradually fully recovers in the future.
