MAFI launches eAGRO To Help Small Farmers

eAGRO launched the first online platform for agricultural input products in Malaysia, today. A strategic partner of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI), eAGRO was created to assist smallholders by improving the smooth delivery of agricultural input products, while at the same time encouraging price production between smallholders, sellers, and producers of agricultural input products.

The launching ceremony of eAGRO was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr. Ronald Kiandee, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry at Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Among the agricultural input products available on the eAGRO online platform are seed packs, seedlings, fertilizers, antibiotics, livestock vaccines, animal feed, fish feed, and agricultural equipment.

In addition to allowing smallholders to place orders through the agricultural input product search on the eAGRO online platform, they can also opt for the product to be delivered directly to their home or they pick it up at any nearby store after a successful order is placed online.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Datuk Seri Dr. Ronald Kiandee, platform facilities such as eAgro are in line with MAFI’s key strategy in expanding technological adaptation in the food system as a pragmatic measure to increase the efficiency and productivity of economies of scale and sustainable agriculture.

In addition to offering various agricultural input products, eAGRO also manages the sharing of information that is beneficial to smallholders, such as providing fertilizer analysis services through the platform. This allows smallholders to receive accurate information about the nutrient content of certain fertilizers.

Those who have already registered on the eAGRO platform have several payment options. Smallholders who register as members on the eAGRO platform can enjoy a cashback of 2% for direct purchases, at the same time having the option for interest-free installment payments for purchases exceeding a certain threshold. CIMB cardholders are eligible to make 6 interest-free installment payments with a minimum purchase of RM600, and 12 months interest-free installment payments for a minimum purchase of RM1,200. eAGRO intends to collaborate with more financial institutions in the future for the benefit of smallholders.
