Quarantine-Free Travel to Singapore Begins From Nov 29, In Time For Festive Season

Malaysians can now add Singapore to their holiday plans as both countries have finally gotten the green lights to travel quarantine-free from November 29, just in time for the festive season.

Both the neighbours will be launching a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport for individuals who are vaccinated against COVID-19.

This long-awaited news is a huge boost to business travellers and tourists who can finally able to travel and resume their business.

With this VTL, fully vaccinated travellers can travel between Singapore and Malaysia without needing to serve a quarantine or stay-home notice. They will simply need to take two polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. One will be done before departure and the second will be done upon arrival.

They will also need to have remained in one or more of the VTL countries in the last 14 days before they can depart to Singapore on designated flights.

Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob called this move “another important milestone in the longstanding Malaysia-Singapore cooperation.

He also added that he looks forward to effective implementation of this travel scheme, adding to those that have developed previously to facilitate movements of people and goods between Malaysia and Singapore.

In a Facebook post of Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong said: “Singapore and Malaysia have made good progress vaccinating our populations and managing the pandemic. So, we agreed that it is timely to progressively resume cross-border travel between both countries. This will help revive our economies, restore people-to-people ties, and strengthen our bilateral partnership”

The leaders are also discussing reopening travel across the Causeway and the Second Link, he added. “We look forward to launching a similar VTL scheme between Singapore and Johor in the near future,” taking into account the public health situations in both areas.

According to Singapore’s Safe Travel website, Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) applications for Short-Term Visitors and Long-Term Pass Holders will commence on 22 November 2021; returning Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who are fully vaccinated will not need to apply.
