5G Network Rolled-out In KL, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya

The country’s first 5G network was launched today in an effort to provide residents with speedier internet access, says the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Annuar Musa.

Annuar says that for the first year, the game-changing 5G services will be available in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Cyberjaya before being expanded in stages until it reaches 36 percent statewide coverage.

“Next year, the 5G rollout will be focused on densely populated states, including Penang, Selangor, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak,” he says.

He adds that 5G services will be a game-changer for the economy and it would enable the creation of job opportunities in various high-tech activities.

“All these must be capitalised on by the people. The ministry, through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, will also open Digital Economic Centres or PEDi in Rumah Prihatin here to train city folk to get involved in digital economic activities.

“This matches our goal of encouraging them to resume economic activities or income-generating programmes, in line with the country’s transition towards the (Covid-19) endemic stage,” he says.

Based on the National Digital Network (JENDELA), PEDi centres are set to be created to ensure the people have a platform to keep abreast of the latest digital technological developments or conduct businesses via e-commerce.
