Nano Malaysia Bhd Signs MoU With (MyIPO) For (TISC) Programme

NanoMalaysia Bhd (NMB) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) for the Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) programme.

This MoU is one of the intermediate steps for NMB to become a Centre of Excellence for Intellectual Property (IP) strategic management through participation in IP training programmes, such as patent searching, patent drafting, IP commercialisation and IP marketing, conducted and coordinated by MyIPO, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

These training sessions will be conducted by experts in the field of IP from the United States and Europe, appointed by WIPO, using modules in accordance with the standards set by the WIPO, and to share “best practices” adopted abroad. NMB Chairman, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Ir. Dr Mohamad Zawawi Bin Ismail said:

“This collaboration is a notable opportunity to foster stronger ties in the areas of Technology Innovation and Intellectual Property protection as well as strategic deployment. It not only allows for better utilisation of available resources but also helps to establish strong and effective management in this area at the national level.”

He shared that the signing of this MOU will allow NMB access to technical information, which is a vital factor in the objectives and goals of NMB, for both short and long term, in monetizing IPs jointly developed with start-ups, small and medium enterprises and universities. Under this initiative, MyIPO will act as the Focal Point between WIPO and TISC Host Institutions for all TISC activities in Malaysia.

 To date, there are 16 Host Institutions which consists of educational institutions, public and private, and research institutions in Malaysia and NMB have become the 17th Host Institution in this programme.

 The MOU will focus on efforts to intensify technology transfer activities between universities, local research institutions and industry players. MyIPO Director General, Abdul Haris bin Haji Lakar added:“We, at MyIPO, are very excited about the signing of the MOU today, and are looking forward to greater collaborations with NMB in the future. Our TISC programme offers the best practices adopted abroad and we believe it will be a great asset to NMB.
