Petronas, Sumisaujana To Commercialise Corrosion Inhibitor 4/CI4

Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd and Sumisaujana TCM Chemicals Sdn Bhd have signed a commercialisation agreement to commercialise the former’s proprietary corrosion inhibitor technology, Corrosion Inhibitor 4 (CI4).

Petronas’ senior vice president of project delivery and technology, Bacho Pilong, says the group’s research and development for technological solutions that address the roadblocks to cleaner energy are driven by innovation.

“We’re promoting our proprietary CI4 as a viable solution for dealing with the corrosive nature of high CO2 fields to provide people with a reliable natural gas supply.”

“With its good track record, capabilities, and credibility, we are confident that Sumisaujana will effectively expand the reach of CI4 in the marketplace to benefit our stakeholders and industry counterparts who share the same passion for sustainability,” he added.

CI4, a technology that reduces corrosion in steel pipelines to an acceptable level is poised to be an effective solution for the energy industry to help transport natural gas from high carbon dioxide (CO2) gas fields.

This technology is also a key enabler for carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) initiatives in the transportation sector.

The agreement was signed at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference 2021 by Petronas Technology CEO Dr Mahpuzah Abai and Sumisaujana executive director Toh Chee Seng.
