KLIA Registers 122% Passenger Traffic Increase

Traffic performance at Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad’s network of airports MAHB network of airports registered 4.1million passengers in October 2021, a growth of 56.9% over October 2020. International and domestic passenger movements recorded 1.2million and 2.9million, an increase of 108.2% and 41.9% passenger movements respectively. However, on a last-twelvemonth basis, the group registered 30.1million passengers, a contraction of 52.4% over the same period last year. Overall aircraft movements grew by 36.8% with international and domestic aircraft movements increasing by 71.6% and 25.6%.

As for Malaysia, traffic was 1.3million an increase of 91.1% compared to the same month in 2020, international sector recorded 120,000 passengers with an increase of 34.3%, while the domestic sector increased to 99.7% with 1.2million passengers over the same month last year. Overall aircraft movements increased by 35.3%. International and domestic aircraft movements increased by 52.1% and 31.0% respectively over October 2020. The average load factor for the domestic sector and overall aircraft movements were 64.9% and 56.6%, the highest registered since April 2020.

KLIA registered 470,000 passenger movements in October, an increase of 122.0% over the same month last year. International and domestic passenger movements at KLIA increased by 33.5% and 184.0% respectively over October 2020. KLIA Main Terminal recorded 232,000 passengers with an increase of 151.5% while klia2 recorded 238,000 passengers with an increase of 99.2% over the same month last year. However as compared to the last twelve-month passenger movements for KLIA Main Terminal and klia2 recorded 1.4million and 999,000 passenger movements, the airports recorded a decline of 87.6% and 92.1%.

Overall aircraft movements at KLIA increased by 57.4% over October 2020. International and domestic aircraft movements at KLIA increased by 54.2% and 62.1%.

Passenger movements at MASB Airports registered 0.8million passengers with an increase of 77.1% in October 2021. International and domestic passenger movements increased by 65.9% and 77.2% over the same month last year. Aircraft movements in October 2021 increased by 27.1%. The international and domestic aircraft movements grew by 44.7% and 25.9% over October 2020. Istanbul SGIA passenger movements continued to record an uptrend with 2.8million passengers, an increase of 44.8% over October 2020 or 88.3% October 2019 share of traffic. International and domestic passenger movements grew by 121.5% and 18.0% with 1.1million and 1.7million passengers respectively. Total aircraft movements increased by 38.8% with international and domestic aircraft movements increasing by 89.1% and 17.8% respectively over October 2020.

NAHB is observeant on the positive developments that are taking place locally and around the region to revive the tourism and aviation sector, which is providing optimism for air connectivity and better prospect for international traffic recovery for the months to come.
