Petronas Digital Bags 2 Awards From The Institution of Chemical Engineers

Petronas Digital which develops digital solutions for the parent company and other digital elements has been recognised for its industrious development by winning 2 awards at the recent Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Malaysia Awards 2021 and IChemE Global Awards 2021.

The company’s Start-up Excellence Live Advisory (STELLAR) Programme won in the Process Automation and Digitalisation category at the IChemE Global Awards 2021, while Citizen Analytics: Enabling Analytics Capabilities Programme won in the Training and Development Award category at the IChemE Malaysia Awards.

It’s CDO Aadrin Azly commented “The beauty of Digital is two-fold – developing solutions that advance business growth, which is what STELLAR has achieved and empowering our people to elevate their knowledge and skillset which is the purpose of the Citizen Analytics programme. Technology drives change but people drive technology, hence it is imperative to equip the workforce with the capabilities to transform innovative ideas into digital reality.

Recognising that digital solutions are increasingly crucial in the optimisation of LNG plant equipment and operations, STELLAR was developed in 2020 and introduced to PETRONAS’ Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd to improve overall productivity and cost-efficiencies at their plants.

An AI-driven model, STELLAR captures valuable tacit knowledge from experienced operators and engineers and generates actionable insights from over two decades worth of plant data, enabling real-time response to optimise plant operations. Since its deployment, STELLAR has successfully reduced start-up duration by 40 per cent and carbon emission by 10 per cent.

The Citizen Analytics programme, implemented in 2019, empowers PETRONAS employees with data analytics skillsets while accelerating PETRONAS’ transition towards becoming a data-driven organisation. Participants will be able to apply the skills, tools and applications learnt to address business challenges and discover insights with data, to bring significant value to the industry.

The IChemE Malaysia Awards and IChemE Global Awards celebrate chemical, process and biochemical engineering excellence. The global award received more than 120 finalist entries from across 20 countries.
