TNB Offers Professional Data Science Programs For Better Employability

Tenaga Nasional Berhad through Universiti Tenaga Nasional, plans to introduce professional certification programs on data science in efforrts to fill the demand gap for the profession and at the same time improve the employability of unemployed undergraduates and employees troubled by the pandemic.

The Data Science Professional Certification programs will be offered through UNITEN’s Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE) together with the university academic and industry partners.

Commuication Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa who was attending the event added that the programs will include computational thinking using the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving. Such programs, added Annuar “would be a worthwhile investment that will leave behind a generation that is able to think critically and possesses the required soft skills to make creative and innovative decisions based on not just data analytics but also wisdom.”

Ever since the pandemic, there has been a clarion call for youths to upskill themselves especially with digital skills if they are looking for better prospects in the job market. Many GLC’s are stepping up in offering programs and part time schools for the affected community, institutions of higher learnings are also being encouraged to offer more affordable courses to lift the generation as the nation strives towards digitalisaiton.

UNITEN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TNB that was established in 1997, has produced a total of 35,403 graduates since 1998. The employability rate of its graduates in 2020 was 93% and 8.3% of them are job creators (entrepreneurs).
