Perodua Says Worst Is Over Targets 240,000 Unit Sales For 2022

Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd the maker of popular vehicles like Myvi and Bezza, is targeting sales of 240,000 units of its cars for 2022, said CEO, Dato Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

This target was an increase of 20 percent from 2020 which the number one car manufacturer achieved, despite multiple lockdowns and supply chain disruption. According to Dato Zainal, the target is supported by the expectation that 2022 will be a year of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and the return to stability for the car market.

“We believe that the worst is behind us in terms of Covid-19 related lockdowns– Insya Allah – and while there are other risks in the market, we foresee the year 2022 as a year of recovery.”

“Demand is expected to increase in the first six months of next year as the public wants to benefit from the sales tax exemption incentive by the government while sales in the second half are expected to slow slightly."

The propopect is added, with Perodua's plans to launch a new Perodua Alza model next year with the current model is being as discontinued in January.

As of November, Perodua recorded sales of 167,250 units, a reduction of 14.2 percent compared to 194,980 units in the same period last year. The company is targerting to sell at least 30,000 units in December to reach the target of 200,000 by year end.

The recently launched Perodua Myvi model had received 14,600 orders, of the total, a total of 7,189 units involved orders from buyers who switched from the previous variant. The new model comes in five variants, namely the 1.5 liter AV (Advance), 1.5 liter H, 1.5 liter X, 1.3 liter G and 1.3L G (Basic) with prices ranging from RM45,700 to RM58,800 without insurance and excluding sales tax.
