Perak Enforcers Confiscate 40 Bags Of Rice Sold Above Control Price

The Perak KPB or Kawalselia Padi dan Beras enforcement team confiscated 40 bags of rice (5KG) sold above the control price on the premises and brought them back to the office for further investigation.

Suspecting that the business premises had committed an offence under the Paddy and Rice Control Act [Act 522], the team carried out a raid that resulted in the seizure.

At about 2.30 pm, the KPB enforcement team entered the retail business premises for inspection. The inspection found that there were bags of rice on display for sale.

Further inspection also found that 5% Local Super Special grade rice (SST5%) in 5KG bags was sold above the maximum price set under the Rice Control Act [Act 522]. For information, SST5% grade rice must be sold higher than RM2.60 per kilogram.

The confiscation proceeds are estimated at RM520. The case will be investigated under the Rice (Grade and Price Control) Order 1992. If found guilty, the business premises can be fined up to RM25,000.

On Oct 21, 2021, Pertubuhan Pesawah Persaudaraan Malaysia (PeSAWAH), in addressing the issue of supply and price of paddy seeds, said they suspected some people were selling paddy at a higher price and that there was a deliberate situation created to cause supply issues.

Secretary of PeSAWAH and Secretary-General of IDRIS Association Nurfitri Amir in an interview with Business Today, had criticized the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) for the launch of SMART SBB Series 2 on Nov 9,

“MAFI should choose between not being too cosy with the corporations and addressing the important issue of paddy price control enforcement, which is still a problem.

“The government controls the price of rice grain at RM35, but the factories sell it for RM43.”
