TNB Shuts Down 333 Power Substations

Tenaga Nasional Berhad has annpunced that it will temporarily shut down 333 power substations as safety precaution in areas of Pahang, Kelantan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan following the floods that have hit the states. 

The utility giant added as of shut downs conducted thus far households effected include 17,251 in Pahang, Selangor (5,062), Kuala Lumpur (4,450), Melaka (634), Kelantan (470) and 284 users in Negeri Sembilan. A total of 137 substations were closed in Pahang, Kelantan (7) Selangor (117), Kuala Lumpur (45) Melaka (10) and Negeri Sembilan (17).

In response to TNB's action so far in handling the flood situaion and power supply, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was satisfied with TNB's readiness in its ongoing efforts to maintain electricity supply and ensure the safety of the public in the face of flood disasters. 

TNB President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir Baharin Din said the GLC will provide electricity supply through mobile generator sets at temporary evacuation centers that do not receive supply from the closed substations. 

He said the closure of power substations during floods was done for the safety of consumers and TNB also advises users in flooded areas to always follow the instructions of the authorities if asked to evacuate and contact TNB Careline at 15454 if there are TNB, Local Authority (PBT) or Public Works Department (JKR) installations that shift or collapse.

Peopla are adivsed to stay away from electrical poles, electrical installations and electrical cables- including those coated with submerged insulation. All of these may still have an electrical supply current and may pose a risk of shock. Also to be careful when using electrical appliances if their premises are flooded and avoid touching electrical appliances or switches with wet and damp hands as it can cause electric shock. 

As precaution, residents should seek the services of a wiring contractor registered with the Energy Commission to inspect the wiring in their flooded premises.
