Azman Mokhtar has been appointed chairman of Tabung Haji (TH) effective today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Idris Ahmad said in a statement that Azman and TH will be responsible for the agency’s strategic development.
The former managing director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd replaces the previous chairman, Md Nor Yusof, who resigned from his post on Oct 14, three years after his appointment.
Azman’s appointment is expected to fuel its ongoing efforts to become an Islamic institution respected for its performance and governance, in line with its mandate of assisting Malaysian Muslims to save for the purpose of haj.
He has recently been appointed as chairman of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, chairman of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), and a member of the National Recovery Council.
Azman has also been instrumental in the success of leading Malaysian companies such as Khazanah Nasional, Axiata Group Bhd, Iskandar Investment Bhd, and IHH Healthcare Bhd.
