Reinvigorating Mid-Tier Companies Exports Growth Through MTC’s CEO Summit 2021

Mid-Tier Companies (MTCs) CEO Summit 2021, which was held in a hybrid format for the first time today has become a significant platform for all CEOs of MTCs to congregate, network and share their ideas for future growth.

The event, hosted by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has attracted more than 300 MTCs’ representatives physically and virtually from various sectors.

With the theme “Charting the Course for Export Growth”, the event was organised with the aim to strategise their export plan, based on the latest trends, key developments and new opportunities in the global markets.

During the Summit, Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE, Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said that “As the economy begins to rebound from the downturn due to the pandemic since last year, Malaysian businesses, especially the MTCs need to push the extra mile to grow beyond all limits and boundaries.” He added that MTCs should be the leaders in setting the path towards economic recovery by being agile in keeping up with the demands and market trends, adhering to the industry standards and strategising effectively in the quest for internationalisation.

The highlight of the Summit was CEO Conversation, sharing session featuring the MTCs on “Surviving the Crisis: Seeking the Light at the end of the tunnel”. Three MTCs under the Mid-Tier Programme, Plus Xnergy Holding Sdn Bhd, Forest Interactive Sdn Bhd and Cape EMS Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd shared their thoughts and emerging ideas on Environment, Sustainability and Governance (ESG), digitalisation and business agility.

MATRADE also honoured MTCs who have excelled in exports, driven innovation and successfully developed outstanding business initiatives during the event. The MTCs are recognised based on categories such as Sustainable Advocate, Digitalisation Advocate, Automation Advocate, Business Agility Advocate and Leadership Advocate.

The event also acknowledged the contribution of the next generation of MTC upcoming leaders through Rising Star recognition and The Unsung Hero, to recognise MTC who has contributed positively to the growth of the MTCs and industry as a whole.

Mid-Tier Companies Development Programme (MTCDP) started in 2014 as one of the Government’s high impact initiatives in Malaysia’s Development Plan, aimed to accelerate the export growth of Mid-Tier Companies to be the regional and global champions. To boost the momentum of MTCs after completing MTCDP, Mid-Tier Ramp-Up Programme was created in 2016 to accelerate exports’ penetration and enhance the competitiveness of the MTCs in becoming regional and global champions.

MATRADE had so far successfully groomed 275 Mid-Tier Companies (MTCs) since 2014 and for the year 2020, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, MTCs exports revenue had reached RM15.4 billion, an increase of almost 4 per cent compared to the year before. Under the 11th Malaysia Plan, MTCs has recorded a cumulative increase in exports at RM5.5 billion, exceeding by 45 per cent over the target KPI of RM3.8 billion.
